Creating a KPI Report

A KPI report is a variation of an Analytics Report that contains a metric, a filter, and a date restriction or time period. A KPI report measures actual performance against targets. Using KPI metrics,you can track actual performance, compare performance to a goal, and detect trends.

A KPI Report differs from a standard Analytics Report in that it is run periodically to detect trends and changes in data, and it uses conditional formatting to classify the current status of the metric. You can create a new KPI report or use an existing Analytics Report to create the KPI report. However, it is recommended that you create a new KPI report rather than edit an existing report to display KPI trends.

There are three types of KPI Reports:

  • Spot – basic KPI report that allows you to set up a KPI without displaying any additional information, other than the value itself.
  • Categorical – splits what is displayed on the tab into categories when viewed as a report. This allows you to break up the value into categories for further examination.
  • Time – allows you to show a trend according to time series data, rather than real-time trends. It also allows you to show more detail in the report, similar to a Categorical KPI.

      KPI reports cannot be generated for Analytics Reports with sections. Additionally, KPI reports do not support the use of cross tabs (combination of the Column and Row formats) – you must use either the Column format or the Row format in creating your Analytics Report.

It is recommended that you add at least one filter to all KPI reports to ensure only the records with data are used in the report and/or only the range of desired information (dimensions and metrics [values and dates]) appears in the report.
