Vertical Axis

The vertical axis can be formatted by changing the label for the axis and the style of text used in the label.

Title

  The formatting options below deal with a Bar chart since this is one of the most common types of charts used, and most standard charts include an X-axis and Y-axis. Based on the type of chart you are using, the chart axis formatting options may differ.

The vertical axis is also known as the Y-axis.

Charts tab

Click to display the Charts view.

  You can also display this view when opening an existing report by selecting the Edit tab, and then selecting Charts in the menu.

Axis icon

Click on the icon to display the Axis Settings window.

Chart Axis list

Click on Vertical, and then drag-and-drop it into the Axis Settings window. The window refreshes as redisplays as Axis Settings - Vertical.

Custom option

If you want to customize the values (or categories) displayed along the vertical axis, click on Custom to display the formatting options.

Font list

Locate the font style you want to use for the values/categories, and click on it to select it.

Font size list

Locate the font size you want to use for the values/categories, and click on it to select it.

Color option

Click on the image351.png icon to display a color palette that allows you to change the color used for the values (or categories) displayed along the vertical axis. The default color is black.

Emphasis icons

Click on the image352.png icon to make the values (or text) bold, and the image353.png icon to italicize the values (or text).

Close & Apply icon

Click on the image332.png icon to apply the title changes to the chart’s vertical axis in both the Charts view and the Output (full report) view, and close the Axis Settings window.

Style

The formatting options below deal with a Bar chart since this is one of the most common types of charts used, and most standard charts include an X-axis and Y-axis. Based on the type of chart you are using, the chart axis formatting options may differ.

To format the style of the Vertical axis, repeat Steps 1-3 above in Title to display the Axis Settings – Vertical window.

Style category

Click the expand icon image358.png to display the style options for the vertical axis.

Custom option

If you want to customize the display of the vertical axis and its label, click on Custom to display the formatting options.

Color option

Click on the image365.png icon to display a color palette that allows you to change the line color of the vertical axis. The default color is black.

Thickness field

If you want to change the default thickness of the line used for the vertical axis from 1 (pixel), click in the field and enter another number.

Label Font options

If you want to change the display of the label that runs along the left side of the vertical axis, click on Custom to display the formatting options.

Font list

Locate the font style you want to use for the label, and click on it to select it.

Font size list

Locate the font size you want to use for the label, and click on it to select it.

Color option

Click on the image351.png icon to display a color palette that allows you to change the color of the text used for the label. The default text is black.

Emphasis icons

Click on the image352.png icon to make the label text bold, and the image353.png icon to italicize the text.

Close & Apply icon

Click on the image332.png icon to apply the style changes to the chart’s vertical axis in both the Charts view and the Output (full report) view, and close the Legends screen.
