Editing a Task

You can easily edit a task by changing the task's description and updating the start date and/or due date. However, you cannot change the task owner (person originally assigned the responsibility of completing the task). If you want to reassign a task to another user, you would need to complete the task so that the current task owner is notified, and then create a new task.

A task is edited from the Tasks browse screen in a Contract Profile, Company Profile, and Project Profile.

Note: Although the Contract Profile is used in the example below, the same steps also apply to editing a task in a Company Profile and Project Profile.

Click to display the Tasks browse screen. The link is appended by a number, indicating the number of tasks that have been added to the profile.

B

Task record

Locate the task you want to edit.

Note: To quickly locate a task, you can click on a column heading (Task Subject, Start Date, Due Date, Task Owner, Task Created By or Task Created On) to sort the data in ascending (A-Z or 0-9) or descending (Z-A or 9-0) order.

If you want to update the name of the task, click in the field and type over (or augment) the existing text.

D

Start Date field

If you want to change the task's start date, click in the field and type over the existing date. You can also click on the icon and use the calendar to quickly select the start date.

E

Due Date field

If you want to change the task's due date, click in the field and type over the existing date. You can also click on the icon and use the calendar to quickly select the due date.

F

Task Owner list

This field is not editable. If you need to assign the task to a different "owner," you must complete the task, and then re-create it.

G

Task Created By and Task Created On fields

These fields are not editable.

The Novatus system automatically saves all your updates as you edit the task record. To exit the Tasks browse screen, simply click on another link or button in the profile.
