Editing, Disabling, and Deleting Items in a Tree Field

A Tree Field can be edited by making updates to both the categories and the list items in the field. In addition, a Tree Field category and/or list item can also be temporarily disabled if it will be needed again in the future, or permanently deleted if it will never be used again.

Tree Field Categories

The categories in a Tree Field can be edited, disabled, and deleted. Since a category contains lower-level list items, disabling or deleting a category also disables or deletes all of the items in that category.

   The example below is related to the example provided in the Adding a Dynamic Company Form topic.

Navigation Toolbar

Click on Admin to display a menu of your administrator functions, and click on Lists to display the List Administration screen.

Note: If the Lists link is not in your Admin menu, you do not have the permissions to use this feature.

Note: The screen displays an alphabetical listing of categories (Company, Contract, Address, Clause, Document, Global Translation, People, Project, Relationship, and Workflow). Dynamic forms and additional fields are also listed alphabetically as categories.

Dynamic form

Locate the dynamic form containing the tree field you want to edit, disable, or delete.

Tree field

Locate the tree field, and click on it to select it. A list of the categories in the tree field displays on the right side of the screen.

Category record

Locate the category you want to edit, disable, or delete.

  • If you want to edit the name of the category, click on it to activate it, and type over the existing text.
  • If you want to edit a category's description, click in the Description field to activate it and type over the existing text.

Disabled check box

If you want to make a category temporarily unavailable, click inside its check box. All of the list items in the category are also disabled.

Add / Delete pop-up menu

If you want to delete a category, right-click on its category folder icon to display a pop-up menu, and then select the Delete button. A Delete Tree Value prompt displays.

Yes option

Select to delete the category from the tree field. All of the list items in the category are also deleted.

The individual list items in a category in a Tree Field can be edited, disabled, and deleted.

  • Locate the category containing the list item you want to edit, disable, or delete.
  • Click on its expand icon to display all the items in the category.

  • If you want to edit the name of the list item, click on it to activate it, and type over the existing text.
  • If you want to edit a list item's description, click in the Description field to activate it and type over the existing text.

If you want to delete a list item, right-click on its folder icon to display a pop-up menu, and then select the Delete button. A Delete Tree Value prompt displays.
